When the DFW area Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) decided they wanted to support the Walk MS events in North Dallas and Fort Worth, they wanted to offer an APCO to the event participants.
“Service Experts believed an APCO Air Purifier was the perfect product to auction off since this spring the company has been all about saving the air, and it helps remove germs and impurities from your home’s air that can aggravate allergies and respiratory issues,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck was the winner of the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when her bid came in highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first found out about the APCO several months before when she saw an article discussing the importance of indoor air quality.
“I wasn’t too interested at the time because I didn’t comprehend its compatibility with almost any HVAC system, and assumed it was another one of those “luxuries” that was definitely not in my budget. When they were auctioning it off at Walk MS event, people were talking about the importance of good indoor air quality for people suffering from MS and I instantly thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was in his 90s and had been living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for over 20 years. For the past four years he had been on oxygen constantly, 24/7/365.
“The allergens in his air bothered him even though I always installed the more costly 3M Filtrate brand of air filters. The filters just weren’t enough. He often caught pneumonia despite the fact that he had only left the house over the past four years to see his doctors.”
The pneumonia would constantly result in Kim’s father spending a minimum of two months in the hospital and rehabilitation center. In the time leading up to the Walk MS event in Addison, Kim’s father had spent the majority of the month in the hospital and a couple days at the rehab facility recuperating from two strings of pneumonia. After watching her father go through so much, Kim said she was ready to “roll the dice” by bidding on the APCO, which had two great benefits: her dad would finally come home to “clean” air and all the money went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was so excited when she found out she won and planned on getting the APCO installed in her father’s residence before he was discharged from the rehab facility. Sadly, only three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was brought home to hospice care and passed away peacefully on April 16th. The APCO arrived the week after he passed.
Kim had the APCO installed in her own home because her husband has problems with allergies. Shortly after it was put in, she was cooking onions and noted she couldn’t smell any odors once she finished. She’s excited to see the long-term effects of her new APCO.
We at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning extend our condolences to Kim and her family.
